To this end they are actively encouraging international real estate investors and those looking for a retirement or second home overseas to come to Costa Rica and explore its exciting and affordable property market.

Foreigners just love going to Costa Rica, and sometimes those planned short visits could make one ponder and consider the possibility of staying in the Central American country after retirement.

The 19,730 square mile nation is said to be the most visited at least in the Central American region. In year 2007 alone, it was reported that 1.9 million foreigners went to the country.

So what makes it attractive to foreigners? What makes Costa Rica one of the best places to retire? Was it the fact that it has a long history of uninterrupted democracy or political stability for the past 115 years?

Costa Rica real estate has been steadily increasing in price largely as a result of the popularity the country has garnered from a sub-tropical climate, coupled with a stabilizing economy and a pro-American political government. This Latin American nation is the first choice among retirees looking for a change of climate and culture. There are relatively few restrictions to property ownership, but the two most important ones are these:

  • The Costa Rican government provides broad rights of possession to squatters who occupy the property of absentee owners.
  • The government restricts the usage of all beach front property which is within 50 meters of the coastline.

A tourist Mecca for Nature lovers and adventurers alike, it is hard to believe that until a decade ago, Costa Rica was a remote and undiscovered tropical paradise. Today, regarded as being among the most biologically intense places in the world, this tiny Central American nation has grown to become one of the world’s premier ecotourism hotspots.

 Although Costa Rica is a small country in terms of area, there is a lot going on here in terms of weather in Costa Rica. With a climate that is diverse and varied, Costa Rica can be divided into several climatic zones, each of which are distinct and individual. Though generally classified as a tropical country because of its close proximity to the equator, Costa Rica has no real winter period, and the sun shines here throughout the year. With over 12 hours of sunshine a day, the sun rises at about 5 am and sets at about 6 pm consistently throughout the year.
